Welcome To The Kingdom
Ellie Rose
WE SAY
She may be a total 80’s obsessive, but 21-year-old singer-songwriter Ellie Rose is a future star in the making on the evidence here. This first song from her forthcoming EP has already caught the ear of tastemaker blogs including Wonderland, Fame, Kaboom and Wonky Sensitive. The past 12 months has seen her profile grow after an appearance on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury 2015. To hone her craft and spread the word, she travelled up and down the UK playing her songs on the acoustic circuit, and it’s a smart move that’s helped her develop her sound, as well as getting to grips with handling audiences everywhere. That talent shines on this cool slice of accessible pop, driven along by deceptively dark pizzicato-esque flourishes that then lead you up to a memorable chorus. It’s forward-leaning but with neat nods to that decade she adores. Catch her live in London with a full band early in the new year at The Old Blue Last on January 26. As a first step, this addictive little tune points towards good things ahead for an artist we’ll keenly follow rather closely throughout 2017.
