Mad Love
Elli Ingram
WE SAY
First pricking the ears of the industry with a souled-out, internet-busting cover of Kendrick Lamar's Poetic Justice, 19 year-old Brighton firebrand Elli Ingram sparks up her debut release proper, the Sober EP, after sold-out launch shows at home and in London. Elli cites Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill and Billie Holiday among her influences and they're all in here, but with a hip-hop edge that has opened her up to wider media - radio has come in from Semtex, Mistajam, Zane Lowe, Adele Roberts, CJ Beatz and DJ Target. Lead track Mad Love, featured here, was also Twin B's Best of British. Watch out for a guest appearance on the forthcoming new album from Chase & Status, with whom Elli is currently on tour, following performances at Glastonbury, Roskilde and Ibiza Rocks. This is an artist with the personality and appeal to cross over.
