All That She Wants
Ella On The Run
WE SAY
We last featured London-based Ella On The Run in summer 2015 with her track Rodeo Clowns soon after she'd impressed many as support artist to Swedish pop star Tove Stryke in Hoxton. Now comes a remarkable cover of 1993's global No.1 smash from another Swedish act, Ace Of Base. We rarely recommend covers unless a musician offers something fresh with their interpretation. Here though, that addictive bit of pop fluff with once-cheesy production is now beautifully transformed into a sensual, moody song that’s executed with style and restraint, elevating it to new heights that seemed previously impossible. Premiered last week with the 405 online, next comes a Sofar Sounds session this Thursday (March 10) and a Robomagic gig on March 22 at Paradise in Kensal Green, setting things up for her next EP due in April. With support to date for her previous work from Huw Stephens at Radio 1, Clash, Huffington Post, The Line Of Best Fit, Candid magazine and many more, the future looks bright for the former Berklee College of Music student. This inspired cover is a neat surprise.
