At the start of 2023 we introduced you to Melbourne-based British singer-songwriter Eleni Drake and her hazy, reverb touched guitar-led ode, Guts. Taken from her forthcoming second album, Surf The Sun, the single showed a glimpse into her new life and adventure down under, having moved to Australia in 2022 following the release of her debut album, Can’t Stop The Dawn, in 2021. With its lazy Laurel Canyon swagger, Rookie continues this discovery of freedom and empowerment, and like Guts, has a gorgeous, summery and golden hue about it. The track is perfect for hazy summer editorial playlists at DSPs and deserves spins on 6 Music and Radio 1 specialist shows. Early tastemaker support for her new material has come from The Line of Best Fit, The Independent, Clash and many more. For fans of Lana Del Rey, Mazzy Star and Billie Holiday.
