Dan Croll
WE SAY
Featuring hands-down the most heart-warming scenes of a rising singer-songwriter jamming with his granny that you'll see all day, the video for Dan Croll's new single Home is as smile-inducing a start to a Tuesday morning as we've come across in months. Much has been made of Croll's genre-bending songwriting this year, not least by us, but the flashes of Harry Nilsson and Paul Simon on this former Radio 1 Track of the Day show that the LIPA graduate found time to study the classics too. Smart move: his is the kind of Britishness that translates to America, where Croll is packing out shows from LA to NYC, picking up radio adds from satellite to KCRW and generating press from Perez Hilton to Time magazine. Back home, having just finished a brace of dates with Bastille, he joins Imagine Dragons on tour in the UK and Europe in the run-up to Christmas, when the end-of-term vibes of Home will surely resonate with a student crowd. A fifth single impacting in March leads into an album, one among the glut of singer-songwriter debuts we're most excited about for 2014.
