Here at RotD, we do have a soft spot for quality Americana and last Friday, Phoenix-born Courtney Marie Andrews released her follow-up to 2017’s beautiful breakthrough album, Honest Life. Produced by Mark Howard (Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Tom Waits), the new album was recorded over eight days at a rented house-turned-studio in LA and this glorious song is its title track. From its rumbling guitars and sombre organ melodies to Courtney’s warm and gorgeous vocals, May Your Kindness Remain is a powerful and sumptuous gospel inspired country-rock gem. The album has been garnering stellar reviews from likes of the Guardian, Times, NPR, Stereogum, and Rolling Stone among others. Further tastemaker support has come from Clash, Independent, GQ, The Line of Best Fit, Crack in the Road, and Wonderland, whilst last year she appeared on Later with Jools Holland. Having wowed SXSW attendees just over a week ago, she will be heading over to tour the UK next month and will be playing the Islington Assembly Hall in London on 24 April. This is quite simply breathtaking music from a rising star.
