It’s a fabulously retro 1960s-tinged sound right from the off here, courtesy of 19-year old Corey Bowen. Hailing from Middlesbrough, the Teesside lad is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who last year toured with one of his heroes Christopher Owens. Since the age of 13, Corey has written and recorded songs in his bedroom and now there's a whole heap of label interest in his music thanks to radio support from Huw Stephens at Radio 1, John Kennedy at Xfm, BBC Introducing in the North East, Beats 1 and recent praise via the NME too. He’ll soon be playing his debut gig in London, following on from a spot at the Green Man festival later this month and another at Liverpool’s International Psychedelic Festival in September. Very much in keeping with the vibe and sound of another hotly-tipped Record of the Day act, Hidden Charms, many of our American contacts are going wild for this quintessentially English guitar music right now. Corey’s got the swagger and confidence to possibly pull off a new British invasion.
