Chicago rapper Common achieved his first number one album on the Billboard album chart this week with Finding Forever selling over 150k copies in the first week. Primarily produced by Kanye West, the album has collaborations with Will.I.Am, D'Angelo and this effort with Lily Allen. Like much of the album it's packed with smart radio-friendly storytelling without sacrificing musical depth. The excellent sample is Love Has Fallen on Me by 60's psychedelic soul band Rotary Connection. When it's released as a single in the US, it looks set give Common his highest charting single to date and, with early Zane Lowe support, the signs are good for impact in the UK too. JF
