Chubby Cat
WE SAY
Next up on our artists you should catch at the Great Escape festival next week is indie dance/electropop Irish artist Chubby Cat. The Cork via Dublin via London and now Belfast-based artist has been having a fantastic year. She was named as one of 2FM Rising Acts for 2024, tipped by The Irish Times (Ones To Watch 2024), awarded Best Artist at Ireland Music Week and nominated for the RTE Choice Prize Song of the Year for ‘Big Dog Barking’. Alongside this, she has caught the attention of Jess Iszatt at BBC Radio 1, editorially supported at Spotify with numerous playlist additions and drawn praise from Hot Press, Nialler9, Golden Plec, Atwood, District Magazine, and more. Today (10 May), she has released this mesmerising offering, which starts with a UK-garage-inspired beat and morphs into a luscious, shining and soaring alternative electronic pop offering. What catches your attention though is her sublime vocals, just gorgeous. Having represented Ireland at Eurosonic this year, Chubby Cat is now set to take TGE by storm with three sets. On Thursday, she will be playing at The Arch (18.45), then on Friday at the Queens Hotel (16.00) for the NI Music showcase and finally on Saturday at Komedia (14.15). If, for some reason, you do happen to miss her, and are at Forbidden Fruit Festival or Primavera Pro, you can catch her there. One to watch. For fans of Charli XCX, Rosalia, James Blake, Tove Lo and PinkPantheress.
