After being blown away by the sheer audacity and addictiveness of CHINCHILLA’s debut EP Awakening in April this year, the London-born artist follows it up with this funk-laden gem. It has been an eventful seven months since our feature, which has seen her sign to Columbia Records in Germany and start work on a bunch of new material. Released on Friday and co-written with close friend Boonif, The Lockdown Getdown is the first of these new songs written during this time. With its ’70s funk groove marrying sweetly with modern pop tendencies and those ASMR-like whisper-come-soulful vocals driving this tongue-in-cheek perspective of lockdown, it’s an absolute joy - think Billie Eilish meet Janelle Monáe. Having already amassed over 9.5m streams, collaborated with Estonian artist NOËP and viral sensation Ren, and receive tastemaker support from the likes of Fader, Notion and Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Scott Mills & Charlie Hedges), this forward-thinking artist is one to keep a close eye in 2021.
