This F*cking Time Of Year
Charles Cave
WE SAY
Christmas Day is almost here, so let Charles Cave deliver a musical gift in the form of this superb retro 80s-influenced treat. Charles is the bass player and songwriter with great British band White Lies, but here he goes off piste and you’d think this could’ve been released by Norway's a-Ha back in the day. Produced and mixed at his home, it was conceived to be part of a series of one-off releases, all of which were received with much acclaim by the likes of Noisey, Clash and Q. He says he was compelled to have a crack at a Christmas song because it’s every musicians duty at least once, so he digs into the often complex family dynamics that surface at this time of the year when we all get together and emotions can run high. Those dark undertones are neatly juxtaposed by the bright instrumentation here and we’re pretty sure you too will pull a wry smile as you listen to it. Charles is currently working on a new solo EP for early 2017, but in the meantime, enjoy this potty-mouthed corker, which contains strong language throughout. Seasonal swearing has never sounded so jolly.
