Unsigned and currently seeking management, this self-released debut by Cat Delphi is an absolute corker. A former student at the Royal College Of Music, she’s spent the past few months crafting and developing her sound via her publishers at Crown Songs, who’ve helped pair her up with the cream of writing and producing talent. One of her own compositions, the excellent smooth pop single L'été en hive by Christophe Willem, reached the Top 10 in France last year, so her pedigree is already beyond doubt. A plain, wistful piano motif underscores this stunning song which has already found favour at Radio 2, where it was added to their playlist last weekend. Dermot O’Leary will soon have her in the station for a session, as will BBC Introducing, who’ve been keen supporters of her work to date. The track has built up almost 100,000 SoundCloud plays already, and with tastemaker blogs including Clash, Wonky Sensitive, Hype Machine and more already behind her, expect a keen turnout for her next live London show at The Islington on February 15. Fire is sizzlingly understated and very cool.
