Jolie Coquine

Caravan Palace

unsigned/ Wagram, France

WE SAY

'Electro-swing jazz' isn't a genre we dip into often but a fun debut from this French ensemble, Caravan Palace, was enough to make us change that policy. It's an unusual cocktail, to say the least, but we loved the energy of this tune and could see this going down well at festivals (they played Womex in 2007). It could do for gypsy jazz what Gogol Bordello did for gypsy punk- i.e. give it a much bigger profile. We also can see the synch opportunities for this kind of music. An interesting proposition, their French label is currently talking to a number of interested parties across Europe ahead of their debut album in the autumn. JF
