Broke
Captain
WE SAY
This five piece signed to EMI last November to much subtle buzz ever since. There has been strong Radio 1 support from Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley, a live acoustic slot from SXSW for Steve Lamacq's 6Music show and a session on Xfm. The wandering epic sound and great harmonies on Broke is an example of their searing pop that is quite hard to pigeonhole. There's a healthy mix of influences at work here, but there's something innovative about the way they've blended it all together. The Guardian said they "sound like a cross between Athlete and Prefab Sprout". Having played support to The Ordinary Boys, Delays and Kaiser Chiefs this year, it won't be long until they're centre stage themselves. London gig: 25 April, Bush Hall
