WE SAY
LA-based electro-pop duo Capital Cities - San Fran-raised Ryan Merchant and Syrian-born Sebu Simonian - might be the only band who can claim to have met on Craigslist (and survived). Former jingle writers both, Capital Cities' stock in trade writing catchy, immediate pop melodies is strongly in evidence on their forthcoming album In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery. Breakout debut single Safe & Sound - reminiscent of MGMT with a pop sheen - is a summer smash in waiting, effervescing with high-energy dance beats, summery synths and lyrical optimism. Accordingly it has already gone Top 10 in the Billboard Chart, reached No. 1 in Germany, and the video has notched up a respectable 3million views in under two months. Among the hundreds of tracks currently lining up to be crowned 'soundtrack of the summer', this no-brainer radio record may well be the one to take the title - safe and sound.
