Seatbelts For Aeroplanes
Brand New Friend
WE SAY
Here’s a healthy dose of pop-punk to kickstart your morning off, from Northern Ireland four piece Brand New Friend. Formed in 2016, the band initially began as a duo with brother and sister Taylor (guitar/vocals) and Lauren (keyboards/vocals) Johnson before Aaron Milligan (bass) and Luke Harris (drums) joined them after the release of their debut EP, American Wives. Having built up a reputation for their new fuller sound on the Irish live scene and garnered praise from BBC Ulster and BBC Introducing, the band signed to Xtra Mile Recordings last year. Released last week, this punchy and energetic title track to their forthcoming debut album has already received plays from Huw Stephens and John Kennedy. Further tastemaker support has come from Louder Than War, Hot Press, 6Music (Steve Lamacq & Amy Lamé), Radio 1 ( Phil Taggart & Annie Mac), RTE 2FM and Today FM, as well as previous single, Girl, featuring on Spotify’s Pure Pop Punk and Rocked editorial playlists. The band have just been announced to support Snow Patrol on their forthcoming Irish tour to go alongside shows with Kodaline in Belfast and Starcrawler in London, having already supported Feeder in Ireland and Pretty Vicious in the UK already this year. Anthemic pop-punk for a new generation.
