Hailing from Norway, residing now in New York but with his latest album Islander recorded on the Isle of Wight, Bernhoft certainly gets about a bit. Taking on board a load of great influences along the way, the sound on this likeable, quirky track is tinged with soul from the old-skool, mixed with a hint of Scandi-pop. Already a renowned solo performer and multi-instrumentalist in his native land (where this single is No.1 this week), the focus moves now to the UK and beyond. Here the song is on the B list at Radio 2 and a session with Wogan on his weekend show is imminent, coinciding with a live date at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire on May 19. With his last album selling over a quarter of a million copies, it's probably time we sat up and paid attention. Close your eyes and you could easily mistake this as being something new from John Newman. It's cool, feel good, grown-up pop, from an act that's not afraid to be self-effacing too, as the video proves!
