Amidst foreboding synth patterns and ghostly harmonies, Bristol collective Bearcraft weave a tapestry of vivid imagery, evoking a sense of drama and peril flecked with folk undertones in this beguiling number. Inspired by the collective’s lead protagonist Dicky Moore’s love of A Sky of Honey by Kate Bush and his sister’s first novel, The Drowning Pool, Where The Sun Sets tells the tale of a sea-witch called Sarah Moore who lived in Leigh-on-Sea in the 1800s. Produced by Joe Reeves (Age of Consent), it’s a gorgeously moody composition with the haunting vocals of Sam Sally, backed by eerie, electronic production. Accompanying the release is a video shot on VHS by Say Goodnight Films during lockdown, which only further accentuates the lyrical narrative and claustrophobia. Watch it here. Released at the end of September and taken from the collective’s album Fabrefactions, it’s caught the attention of online tastemakers like High Clouds, Cool Hunting, Analogue Trash, Skope, and When The Horn Blows. Further support for Bearcraft has come from Electronic Sound, Bearded Magazine and 6 Music. For fans of The Knife, Depeche Mode and Austra.
