Grabbing your attention right from the first note, this track from Bassette is the opener to her highly-recommended debut EP Midnight Sound. She was born in Bermuda 20 years ago but arrived in England at the age of five. Raised at the family home in Sheffield, she started singing at the age of 11 when she received a karaoke machine as a Christmas gift. As a teen, she made YouTube cover videos in her bedroom and it was then that the positive feedback she received from viewers encouraged her to forge a career in music. She now divides her time between Yorkshire and London, and counts Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd amongst her influences. The sound is very much alternative R’n’B, engaging and supremely classy but with an edge and darkness that attracts rather than detracts throughout. With London gigs promised in the coming months, one taste of Bassette's voice makes us feel like we’re experiencing the start of a great journey for someone very special indeed.
