Don't Go
Basheba
WE SAY
Basheba is a great London-based artist we’ve featured twice over the past couple of years (last time with her excellent High ’n Dry in April 2015) and it’s heartening to note that her sound is now progressing to fresh new heights with this first song from her latest four-track EP, Axiom Part 1. Released though her own label Y.O.B. Records (Youth Of Britain), it’s already picking up strong support at radio. DJ Target at 1Xtra is a fan, and the remix from XVR BLCK has been getting specialist spins at Radio 1. A remix from Musika is on the way, but the original version sounds just perfect on the sort of warm, chilled-out day we’ve had recently. The edgy video, directed by Joe Beverley and Sam Hurlock of That Jam, takes it to a darker place, telling the brutal tale of two brothers and their inseparable bond for each other. It’s a shrewd juxtaposition, adding a whole new level to such a smooth and soulful soundtrack. Basheba is a lady we’re hearing grow and develop as an artist with every release. Her time in the global spotlight is fast approaching and well-deserved.
