Sail
AWOLNATION
WE SAY
No doubt the many synch agencies among RotD's readership will correct us if we're wrong, but AWOLNATION's Sail must surely be in the running for 'most synched song ever'. Epic and portentous, it has been placed in over 100 TV shows, adverts and film trailers, the most recent being Ridley Scott's new movie The Counselor. In the two years since its original release in the US, where it is only now peaking, the official video has amassed 33m views across YouTube and Vevo, with a further 150m generated from UGC content (not least Jeb Corliss' eye-watering Grinding The Crack). All of which has translated into 3.5m single track downloads and nearly half a million album sales for Megalithic Symphony. Now the contagion seems to be spreading to the UK, with Sail climbing the iTunes chart and receiving a first Radio 1 play from Phil & Alice on Wednesday. With three UK tours in the last year, including a sold-out Heaven earlier this, a heavy album re-promotion could well see it replicating its American successes over here.
