When The Lights Go Down
Armand Van Helden
WE SAY
Armand's My My My was one of the sleeper hits of last year. Into Your Eyes was great too, although we realised this too late to support it. When The Lights Go Down is a devastatingly simple and powerful tune. So many of Armand's contemporaries now seem and indeed sound like the dinosaurs of dance, but he has kept on delivering. Deep Dish, Bodyrockers... dance music with live guitars seems so right for now - unlike guitar music pretending to be dance music. A few more singles like this and Armand could be ripe for a Basement Jaxx-style top ten hit compilation (imagine When The Lights Go Down, My My My, You Don't Know Me and Koochy on the TV ad - that would sell).
