Those Words

Anoushka Shankar

Mercury KX

WE SAY

To ease you into your working week today, we have something slightly different but extremely beautiful for your ears by sitarist, composer and producer Anoushka Shankar. The track is taken from her forthcoming Love Letters EP and features British singer and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson and renowned Indian singer Shilpa Rao. Deeply evocative from the opening raga, Those Words gradually builds with first the introduction of Shilpa’s gorgeous vocals and then the powerful cello work of Ayanna. It’s a mesmerising and breathtaking affair, from start to finish, and one that is worth your time. Her EP, out in February, will feature her singing for the first time along with Afro-French Cuban duo Ibeyi and her last single Bright Eyes, which Clash called ‘a vivid return’. She is set to play the Royal Festival Hall on 7 & 22 April, having played three sold-out nights at the Southbank Centre in December. A graceful and majestic number from a virtuoso.
