WE SAY
Britain is a hotbed of talented, acoustic singer-songwriters at the moment and the sweet soulful voice of Anna Pancaldi shines through from the pack. Once racked with stage-fright, Anna found her feet as a live performer when she went travelling after college and ended up in New Zealand, singing her own compositions at an open-mic night. Those warmly-received songs were just the confidence boost she needed and led to where she is now, about to release her Black Tears EP featuring this gorgeous song. Produced by Grammy-award winner Simon Gogerly, who’s worked in the past with Paloma Faith amongst others, she’s already made inroads within the UK iTunes Top 10 on their singer-songwriter chart - particularly impressive considering she’s unsigned and doing it all independently right now. After her sold-out show upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s in London, she’s back to launch the EP at another sold-out gig, this time at Servant’s Jazz Quarters in Dalston next Wednesday (March 25). We know the boys had it all their own way in 2014 and the girls are fighting back now. Looks like Anna’s about to charge through, chaps.
