Jasper Erkins, alias Altrego, is a Belgian-born/London-based musician who's about to release his debut EP. From it comes this great lead track mixed by Valgeir Sigurdsson, who's worked with Damon Albarn and Sigur Rós amongst others. There's one big, dirty electro funk groove going on here, the bassline of which is definitely best appreciated when it's turned up ear-bleedingly loud. The song has just gone to radio and Eddy Temple Morris at Xfm was the first to leap on to it over the weekend. On stage, Altrego is joined by two co-collaborators (Stephen Keyes and André Fisher) and you can check out the glorious noise they make at London's Kings Head on June 4 as well as several other venues across Europe this summer, including Belgium's Rock Werchter Festival - he's the only unsigned act on that bill which also features headliners Metallica, Arctic Monkeys and Pearl Jam. They'll be in good company. This is an absolute beast of a tune.
