It’s been a tremendous year for English-German singer-songwriter Alice Merton whose stunning debut track, No Roots has been a phenomenal smash throughout continental Europe and the US. This gloriously upbeat and contagious slice of pop rock is surely set to explode here in the UK next, having already gone platinum in Germany and Austria, topped the French music charts, and racked up nearly 63 million video views on YouTube and over 61 million plays on Spotify, including numerous additions to their editorial playlists. Over in the US, she recently performed on Tonight with Jimmy Fallon after the track topped the Billboard Alternative and Rock Airplay charts, making her the first woman to top the airplay chart since Lorde in 2014. We absolutely love this ridiculously catchy tune and it would be a travesty if No Roots doesn’t build on its early spot plays from Annie Mac and Adele Roberts on BBC Radio 1 to become a daytime radio and UK mainstream hit. With a sold-out performance at The Hoxton Bar & Kitchen tomorrow night (6 March) we expect this won’t be the last time we see her in the UK.
