WE SAY
Its duration might clock in at a swift two minutes, but this astonishing song by Albin Lee Meldau is causing a sensation across Nordic regional playlists right now. It’s been streamed more than 750,000 times in the five days since it went up on Spotify there last weekend. So what’s his story? Well, he’s a singer-songwriter from Gothenburg in Sweden with a voice that’ll stick with you for the rest of your life. The track is so memorable because of the rawness and sheer intensity of his performance. It’s almost as if there’s nothing there except the sound of a man pouring his heart out because he feels there no other way to express his hurt. Production comes courtesy of fellow-Swede Bjorn Yttling who’s also noted for his work with Lykke Li. If you missed his recent UK solo performances when he supported Aurora, Meldau is back for The Great Escape in Brighton on May 21 with a full band. Before that, some special Mahogany sessions are lined up. But for now, everything is in place for this to become a left-field worldwide smash, just like Take Me To Church did for Hozier. Simply incredible.
