DAY OF THE GIRL TO RETURN IN 2024
Today, War Child announces that its Day of the Girl event series has raised an incredible £92,000 to protect, educate, and stand up for the rights of children living in war zones. This year's series saw recently announced BRIT Award Rising Star 2024 nominee Caity Baser, indie singer songwriter Nilüfer Yanya and alternative rock band The Mysterines perform intimate live shows in venues across London and Manchester.
This impressive achievement could not have happened without the support from these incredible artists, the venues (Lafayette and Bush Hall in London and The Bread Shed in Manchester), this year's partners, DORK, Dice and Communion, and the thousands of people that came to these shows and enjoyed watching these one-off and intimate performances.
The event series' headline sponsor this year was YouTube Music- an app made for music listening on top of the magic of YouTube: making the world of music easier to explore and more personalised than ever. This sponsorship helped to elevate the Day of the Girl enormously, particularly with War Child and the YouTube Music Studios' music industry day.
Maddy Smith, Artist Partnerships at YouTube Music said:
"Partnering with War Child for their Day Of The Girl initiative to amplify female music talent whilst also supporting women and girls in conflict zones has been an honour. Particularly during a record breaking fundraising year when this work is more important than ever. We look forward to continued collaboration with War Child here at YouTube and exploring ways we can use our platform to continue to champion female voices."
War Child's Day of the Girl event series will also be returning in 2024 with billing to be announced next year. Day of the Girl coincides with the UN's International Day of the Girl Child, and through a celebration of young, woman-identifying talent, the series aims to create a moment that highlights the specific challenges girls and young women face around the world, and to raise vital funding to help War Child protect, educate, and stand up for the rights of children affected by conflict.
Charlotte Nimmo, Head of Fundraising Engagement at War Child said:
"We're thrilled to share that War Child's Day of the Girl event series has raised such a large amount of money this year, we are extremely thankful to everyone who has supported these events, especially the talented artists and our partners. These vital funds will help to make a difference to girls and young women living in conflict zones. Through provisions such as aid, education, and psychosocial support, War Child empowers young women who refuse to be defined by the horrors of war."
