UK electro-punk act Shelf Lives sign worldwide admin agreement with Cooking Vinyl Publishing
11 February 2025 - Press releaseCooking Vinyl Publishing is delighted to announce the signing of UK electro punk duo Shelf Lives to a worldwide administration agreement.
Shelf Lives, made up of Canadian Sabrina Di Giulio and Northamptoner Jonny Hillyard, formed in the midst of the Covid pandemic and began self-releasing music in 2021 with their first single, Shelf Life.
“It's as close to real life as you can get without feeling really depressed about it,” Sabrina offers by way of summarising Shelf Lives. Much like this point in time, the duo’s music feels chaotic, tense, and wired. Pairing hardcore punk’s brief blasts of energy with electroclash’s minimal and sleazy sonics, they raise themes of societal collapse and hyper-consumerism with a warped smile. The result taps into headspace that’s as rotten as it is dopamine-flooded, with pent-up frustration and pop hooks tossed together in a way that makes, in their own words, “the fucked-up seem fun.”
Support for the band has come quickly with the likes of NME, CLASH, Notion and The Independent all raving about them; Spotify, Apple, Amazon and Deezer adding them to editorial playlists and radio love from Radio 1, 6Music, Radio X, Sirius and Amazing Radio.
“One of my favs, they have riffs that will shatter your aunties overdone Sunday roast potatoes in half” – Jack Saunders, Radio 1
"They are the Canadian-British duo who have an amazing live show .... you want to see Shelf Lives, they are excellent." - John Kennedy, Radio X
"The extroverted electro-punk duo we need right now" – NME
“Punchy punk-laced songwriting… packed with attitude, it’s also open and approachable, and ultimately melodic.” – CLASH Magazine
Having ended 2024 releasing their second EP (‘No Idea’) and selling out London’s MOTH Club, 2025 is set to be the band’s biggest yet with plans for a headline tour, summer festival appearances and work on a debut album.
Announcing the deal, Cooking Vinyl Publishing Managing Director, Ryan Farley says, “I’m buzzing to start working with Sabrina, Jonny and Amy! I first saw the band play at Focus Wales in 2023 and have been pursuing them ever since. Their songs are full of raw energy and brilliant lyricism and the live show is an absolute vibe! I’m excited for what’s to come.”
Sabrina & Jonny add, “We're so f**king pumped to work with Cooking Vinyl, we've always wanted to open a restaurant.”
Manager Amy Field says, “We’re really excited to get stuck in and work with Ryan, Alex and the Cooking Vinyl team. They clearly have great taste and have witnessed what Shelf Lives can do, so we are really pleased to kick off 2025 together.”
