The Box TV Channel Rebrands With Fresh New Look

New logo, idents and on-screen identity from 28th October

The Box, one of the UK’s most respected music TV brands, renowned for new music*, is getting a new on-air identity. From 28 October, The Box’s logo, branding, onscreen and online design will be refreshed, representing the beginning of a new era for the much-loved, 21-year-old channel.

Melissa Pine, Marketing Director, Box TV said: “As the most mature and forward thinking of our network of brands, the rebrand continues to connect  with our ever demanding 16-24 audience who may not have grown up with The Box, without alienating core fans.”

As well as the onscreen and online aesthetics changing, four idents have been produced by Box TV and motion design specialists, We Are Seventeen, to represent the idea that The Box is a destination to escape to, transforming the everyday mundane into something exciting by offering a box shaped fantasy of the world.

Francois Cassin, Art Director at Box TV said: “The biggest challenge for us was to successfully combine a wealth of brand heritage with a new, cutting edge approach. I believe the new logo and channel identity does exactly that."

Launched in 1992, The Box has the strongest heritage within Box TV’s channel portfolio. It was one of the first interactive music TV channels, using the tagline ‘Music Television You Control’, and is credited for breaking a number of British acts in the 90’s.

David Young, Programming Director at Box TV said: “It was important that the rebrand didn’t deviate from the channel’s true offer and values. It has been recognised as the force behind the huge success of the Spice Girl’s debut single ‘Wannabe’ and we are still very much that influence playing future hits first.”

The rebrand has stayed true to The Box’s heritage by reflecting the channel’s energising and inviting tone through a creative approach that is fresh, on point and bold. The Box logo has been reworked with a simplified shape that stays true to its name - The Box – and the heritage palette of black and white.

Cassin continues: “The Box TV logo echoes the original, paying homage to its heritage, whilst mirroring the new, ahead-of-the-curve content that is played out on the channel.”

The rebrand will launch on Monday 28th October with a new chart show, The Official UK Upfront Chart featuring pre-release videos ranked by Radio and TV airplay data.

The Box can be found at Sky 359, Virgin 335, freesat 519 and online at www.thebox.co.uk.
