Support The Sound – A global initiative by dance clubs, promoters, and festivals partnering with Aslice to promote fairness through revenue-sharing

The network’s collaborative goal is to inspire a new booking approach utilizing the community-focussed service Aslice to ensure fair compensation of music creators

Today, an international group of forward-thinking clubs, event promoters, and festivals announced the launch of an unprecedented initiative called Support The Sound that advocates for a healthy and sustainable future in electronic music.

Support The Sound was kickstarted by Basement (New York) and Bassiani (Tbilisi), assembling a global network of founding members consisting of Dekmantel (Amsterdam), Fuse (Brussels), 6AM and Synthetik Minds (Los Angeles), Vault Sessions (Amsterdam), Wire Festival (New York), and Womb (Tokyo).

Their vision statement acknowledges that all members "believe it's necessary that DJs recognize and share with the artists whose music fuels their sets. We have chosen to launch this initiative using Aslice, as their revenue-sharing service aligns with our vision. With its community-connecting platform, Aslice allows working DJs to share earnings directly with the music producers they play at paid gigs."

The initiative is conceived as a long-term project to establish a new booking approach where DJ earnings from performances at their events are distributed fairly. For 2024, all Support The Sound members have agreed to emphasize Aslice's benefits to all booking agents and DJs, while putting their pledge into action by encouraging their resident DJs to submit playlists. Looking ahead into 2025, their commitment goes further as all DJs playing their events will be asked to share with the producers they play.

"When Bassiani and Basement reached out to our team with this idea and expressed that they want to help change things for the better, it truly excited us", says Aslice's founder Zak Khutoretsky (aka DVS1). "Since we launched Aslice in March 2022, we have always emphasized the value of community. Support The Sound plans to embrace a culture of sharing and that resonates deeply with the values of our service. Why wouldn't we support the sound? Our industry would be nothing without the music."

Aslice's lessens the income disparity between working DJs and producers by creating a fairer music ecosystem that benefits everyone involved. “This initiative marks another stride toward realizing this vision”, says Ethan Holben, Aslice's CEO: "We hope the collective action of Support The Sound will cause a ripple effect that improves our entire industry. With DJs sharing via Aslice, producers receive compensation for the use of their work. At the same time, clubs and festivals gain easy access to streamlined playlist data for their national Performance Rights Organization, ultimately ensuring that music producers get the royalties they're legally entitled to."
