A massive night of musical celebration was had at The Garage last night as The Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2016 in association with Rebel Rebel Barbers came to town
THE seventh annual Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) went down a treat last night (Wednesday 12th October) at The Garage, Glasgow as seven top emerging acts took home gongs.
Gerry Cinnamon won the prestigious Best Live Act award in association with Xpo North and was presented with the prized bust by SAMAs main sponsor Rebel Rebel Barbers.
DJ Jim Gellatly hosted the night with special guests presenting awards. Performances from alt-rockers The Van T’s, electronic trio Stillhound, Paisley grime MC Shogun entertained the capacity crowd at the ceremony.
Headline act Baby Strange ended the night with a barn-storming surprise performance.
SAMAs founder and organiser Richy Muirhead was delighted with how the night went.
“We’re all so happy with how the night went, the awards ceremony ran so smoothly. The live bands were outstanding, we were able to recognise some of the best bands in Scotland’s thriving music scene with everyone having a great night and really enjoying themselves. It’s on to the next one for us now!”
The winners of each of the seven SAMAs are as follows:
Best Acoustic in association with citizenM – Michael Cassidy.
Best Electronic in association with assai.UK – Be Charlotte.
Best Hip-Hop in association with 1000.fans – sYmba.
Best Live Act in association with Xpo North – Gerry Cinnamon.
Best Metal in association with Cathouse Rock Club – Perpetua.
Best Newcomer in association with Academy of Music & Sound Scotland – The Ninth Wave.
Best Rock/Alternative in association with Eventbrite UK – Bloodlines.
