Nicholas Parasram and Justin Kan Form Thin Ice Entertainment
26 November 2024 - Press releaseClients Include Platinum Selling Producers Stryv and Marcus van Wattum and Rising Stars Zone and REMIND
Artist manager and investor Nicholas Parasram and Justin Kan, co-founder of Twitch, today announced the formation of Thin Ice Entertainment. Thin Ice will offer talent management to artists and producers alongside publishing and distribution services as well as an incubation lab, to help its clients bridge the gap with emergent technologies and develop new IP and businesses.
Thin Ice will initially launch with several exciting talents, including Stryv, one of electronic music’s buzziest new stars, behind the break-out dance hit of the summer, ‘Move,’ that has just been remixed by Camilla Cabello. The track has amassed over 1 billion views across TikTok & Instagram, 500 million streams, and the #1 spot on the Billboard Afrobeats charts for three consecutive weeks. Also on Thin Ice’s roster is long-time David Guetta & Sia collaborator Marcus van Wattum, a producer whose credits include Britney Spears, G-Eazy, and numerous K-pop successes with TWICE and Taeyeon. Van Wattum has amassed over 3 billion streams, is certified 25x platinum, and a 3x Buma Award winner in the pop and electronic music industry.
Thin Ice also manages Nigerian producer Zone, who recently signed with Avex USA Publishing. Zone’s productions have been featured on tracks from Jason Derulo, Sexxy Red, Ludmilla, Lay Bankz and more. Zone and Stryv worked together with Jason Derulo on his track ‘Limbo’ with REMIND, a fellow Thin Ice management and publishing client.
Parasram and Kan have known each other for several years, initially connecting while working together at Goat Capital, a venture fund founded by Kan in 2020 where they incubated and invested in early-stage technology companies (including Stash and Rye). While Kan mentored Parasram, the two built a strong relationship, investing in companies and incubating businesses together, building a strong foundation between them.
Kan is an avid electronic music fan, DJ, and cofounder of the notable Burning Man sound camp, Titanic’s End. The duo share a desire to develop artists, and with Parasram and Kan’s background in start-ups and technology, help them build innovative businesses and IP alongside their artist careers.
Prior to his tenure at Goat Capital, Parasram founded Sonar Projects, where he managed creators, executed brand marketing campaigns, and secured content deals for venture-backed startups. While working for the startup Kanvas in 2015, Parasram was in search of music from independent artists to license for the app’s music library and stumbled upon Stryv’s catalog. Parasram partnered with Stryv to launch his career, which combined his love of artist development and entrepreneurship. Parasram signed Stryv to a deal with Ian Kirkpatrick and Mike Caren at APG in 2020 and the pair have been working together for nearly ten years.
Justin Kan is a serial entrepreneur and technology investor. He is best known as the co-founder of live video platform Twitch, which was acquired by Amazon in 2014 for $970m. He is a General Partner of Goat Capital and was previously a partner at Silicon Valley incubator Y Combinator, and has invested in over 100 startups including Mercury, Ramp, Cruise, Alto Pharmacy, Xendit, Scale, Reddit, and Rippling.
