Madonna’s lyrics light up London

  • From St Paul’s Cathedral to the Tate Modern, Madonna’s iconic lyrics have been beamed across London
  • Madonna is currently playing at The O2 as part of her The Celebration Tour

To mark Madonna’s The Celebration Tour touching down in London for six nights at The O2, Warner Chappell Music and Rhino Records, divisions of Warner Music Group, have projected some of Madonna’s most famous lyrics on the capital’s most prominent landmarks.

The activation was a joint project between music publisher Warner Chappell Music and label Rhino Records, with the teams reminding the capital of the Queen of Pop’s genius while she is in town for her much-anticipated greatest hits tour.  The Celebration Tour started on Saturday, with Madonna performing her greatest hits from the last four decades.

Over the weekend, her words were brought to life across the city as they lit up buildings that relate to the lyrics.  The landmarks and the projections they adorned were:

  • The Shard - “You must be my lucky star, cause you shine on me wherever you are.”
  • St Paul’s Cathedral - “When you call my name its like a little prayer”.
  • Harrods - “Cause we’re living in a material world and I’m a material girl.”
  • The O2 - “Music makes the people come together.”
  • Tate Modern - “Quicker than a ray of light.”
  • BFI/Southbank - “Come on Vogue let your body move to the music.”

The Warner Chappell Music and Rhino Records teams also commissioned pavement graffiti to appear across London, with sprays in Soho reading ‘Vogue, let your body groove to the music’, while outside red phone boxes the words ‘Every little thing that you say or do, I’m hung up’ were painted on the street.

Kirsten Sharp, Senior Director of Creative Services at Warner Chappell Music UK, said: “Madonna has one of the world’s most recognisable catalogues, which is full of incredible and iconic lyrics.  While she’s in town for her shows at The O2, it was the perfect time to remind people of her amazing songwriting and the vast number of legendary songs she has written and performed.”

Myn Jazeel, SVP, Rhino Records UK added: “Madonna is one of the world’s greatest artists.  We wanted to honour her, her presence in and her connection with London by projecting her lyrics on to some of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks.  She has kicked off her shows in incredible fashion and we hope that we have recognised this by showcasing some of her timeless lyrics and music in a similarly eye-catching way.”
