Bold Promises, Grim Reality: Night-Time Economy Left in the Dark says NTIA

Michael Kill, CEO of Night Time Industries Association comments on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's speech:
"Today’s speech from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer outlining Labour’s six milestones signals a bold “plan for change” and renewed ambition for the UK. From promises of higher living standards to clean energy and tackling NHS waiting lists, these are goals we all want to see achieved. However, given the recent Budget, which will cripple our sector come April, there is a growing cynicism within our industry about the feasibility and sincerity of these announcements."

"Our members see a glaring disconnect between these grand commitments and the lack of immediate support for businesses struggling under the weight of soaring costs, debt, and diminishing consumer spending. The night-time economy is a vital part of the UK’s cultural and economic fabric, yet it has been consistently overlooked in discussions of growth and regional investment."

"While we welcome ambitious infrastructure projects and regional development plans, we cannot help but question how this government intends to balance these aspirations with the harsh realities faced by businesses right now. Without immediate and tangible action, these milestones risk being little more than political rhetoric."

"Our sector stands ready to contribute to the UK’s recovery, but we need targeted support to survive beyond April. Words alone won’t suffice—we need a genuine partnership and urgent policy interventions to ensure that these commitments translate into meaningful change."
