Episode 4 out now
To coincide with the start of the new academic year, BIMM University are proud to present the fourth episode of BIMM Tastemakers FM; a radio and podcast hybrid dedicated to celebrating the music, ingenuity, talent and industry leaders from across the BIMM Campuses.
Launched over the summer, the first three episodes showcase the wealth of talent arising from BIMM and set the tone for future episodes. Produced by BBC Radio’s Phil Taggart (Slack Panda) and Ann Marie Shields (BIMM Creative Futures Dublin Careers Manager), episodes are released monthly and are presented by BIMM’s students. Each episode will highlight a selection of undeniable talent from all BIMM campuses across the UK, Ireland and Europe. Episodes will also include regular industry-led insights, live sessions, as well as gig dates, interviews, debut releases and every month we feature a ‘Top Tips’ section recommended by a successful graduate in the music industry.
Episode 4 is presented by BIMM Dublin graduate and Soul singer Toshín, who is also a TV and radio presenter, hosting shows on RTÉ, including RTÉ Pulse ‘Spill The Tea’. This is the first episode of the new academic year and music comes from across campuses including Dublin’s Affection to Rent who’s lead singer Abbey Addenbroke Sheriff was the winner of the first ever Fontaines D.C. BA Commercial Modern Music Scholarship. The band is made up of current 2nd year students and BIMM Tastemakers play their debut single ‘If We Fall’. This is followed by debut single ‘Golden’ by BIMM Berlin songwriter Hulo from Calcutta; BIMM Bristol’s Leah Wilcox performing ‘Vertigo; an exclusive play of Dublin Alumni Vernon Jane’s new single ‘Get Bettr’ due for release on October 18th to coincide with their support tour with Dublin alumni Bicurious in Bristol, Cork and Dublin. Also featured is Brighton alumni CLT DRP’s single ‘Until You Showed Me’ ahead of their October/November tour supporting Bob Vylan; ‘Acrylic Fences’ by Bicurious from their highly anticipated second album ‘Your Life is Over Now’ released on 4th October 2024 via Big Scary Monsters; ‘Hi’ from BIMM Birmingham’s outgoing 3rd years Eighty Eight Miles whose lead singer is Ellie Grice; and recently released debut single ‘Hungary’ by BIMM Manchester act BETS.
BIMM Brighton graduate is this episode’s resident tipster, Rosie Finn Label Operations Coordinator at Universal Music, who lays down some music industry knowledge with her top three tips right now. Toshín interviews BIMM Dublin lecturer Shelley Bukspan - acting as Head of Vocals for much of her time since the college opened. Shelley is also a vocal coach at The Gaiety School of Acting and a mentor at Minding Creative Minds and is songwriter/performing artist with numerous artistic collaborations. Most recently she worked as vocal coach on location in Ireland on the new Joshua Oppenheimer directed musical ‘The End’ that premiered at The Toronto Film Festival. Shelley worked closely with the whole cast coaching: Tilda Swinton, Michael Shannon, Moses Ingram, George MacKay, Bronagh Gallagher, Lennie James, Tim McInnerney and Danielle Ryan, with music by Marius De Vries and Josh Schmidt.
Talking about the podcast, BIMM Dublin’s Careers Manager Ann Marie Shields says, “There is an extraordinary range of incredible talent across the BIMM Group with exceptional music being created by students, graduates and lecturers. BIMM is where the future of music thrives and this show provides a way to showcase this.”
