BBC Radio 6 Music presents New Music Fix Live in Belfast this November
24 October 2024 - Press release
Today on their New Music Fix Daily show on BBC Radio 6 Music (7-9pm), Tom Ravenscroft and Deb Grant announced the return of New Music Fix Live for a second year, with the 2024 event taking place in Belfast from Monday 25th – Thursday 28th November, broadcast on 6 Music and BBC Radio Ulster.
Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music says: “After the success of New Music Fix Live in Glasgow last year, it’s brilliant to be able to bring the event to Belfast in 2024 and a real treat to collaborate with our colleagues at BBC Northern Ireland, to celebrate the incredible musical talent coming from Northern Ireland and dive deep into the venues, artists and sounds that make up its eclectic and thriving music scene.”
Paul McClean, Executive Editor, Music, Arts and Events, BBC Northern Ireland, says: “This part of the world has always produced astonishing alternative music, from punk to techno, so we are thrilled to host our cousins from 6 Music and to help shine a spotlight on the immense talent we have emerging from Northern Ireland.”
Across that week, in their New Music Fix Daily show, Tom and Deb will spotlight and celebrate Northern Ireland’s emerging talent and grassroots music culture.
From Monday 25th – Wednesday 27th November (7-9pm), they’ll broadcast from BBC Radio Ulster’s studios in Northern Ireland, hearing from electronic duo Bicep, hip hop trio Kneecap and the self-described queer-punks Problem Patterns. They’ll also broadcast unique acoustic sessions, including from singer-songwriters SOAK and piglet, recorded in some of Belfast’s most iconic venues. Plus, there’ll be live DJ sets from some of Northern Ireland’s most exciting production talent, including genre-spanning producers Sally C and Or:la.
On the Thursday (28th November, 7-10pm), Tom and Deb bring a special extended version of New Music Fix Live to Ulster Sports Club. They’ll broadcast live from the venue, bringing listeners performances from three Belfast-based artists: noise-punk band Enola Gay; garage-punk three-piece Jock; and the self-proclaimed rant-hop duo Dirty Faces, all in front of an audience of 6 Music listeners.
BBC Radio Ulster will also be simulcasting New Music Fix Live on Wednesday 27th November (7-9pm) and Thursday 28th November (7-10pm).
Tickets for 6 Music Presents: New Music Fix Live at Ulster Sports Club on Thursday 28th November will be available here from 9am on Thursday 24 October.
Performance highlights from across the week will be available on BBC Radio 6 Music’s social channels after the event and full programmes will be available on BBC Sounds for 30 days after broadcast.
New Music Fix Live is part of the BBC’s Across the UK plans, allowing the BBC to better reflect, represent and serve all audiences.
