Aux Announces LoopLM; Generative AI Samples and Loops for Music Producers
12 March 2024 - Press releaseA never-before-seen generative AI model, developed and launched by music tech start up, Aux, allows musicians to generate and download royalty-free samples and loops to use in their music. Every sample is unique and high quality.
Aux’s founder and serial entrepreneur, Ben Bowler, announced the LoopLM generative AI model at an event at UK House during this year’s SXSW conference. The generative AI model is the first-of-its-kind language model (LM) designed and trained to reproduce high quality, short, samples and loops that musicians and producers can use in their music. Samples and loops are a core part of modern music making across many genres and styles. The LoopLM model is the foundation of the new Aux Sounds feature of the Aux Hub app, which was also announced at the event, where musicians enter a text prompt to generate the high quality samples, preview them in the app, then drag-and-drop them into their music production software, download them or add them to their Aux Hub storage. The LoopLM model has been developed by the founder Ben, and the Aux team of developers and AI engineers. The samples generated by the model are available royalty free for musicians to use. To support those who create loops and samples for a living, Aux has licensed over 100,000 samples and loops to train LoopLM from several creators. These creators receive a revenue share from every sample downloaded by Aux users. Further details of the model can be found on the companies LoopLM FAQ page. Musicians can try out the feature, generate, and preview samples for free in the Aux Hub app from today. To download samples, they need one of Aux’s premium plans which range from $4.99/£3.99 for 50 samples per month to $20.99/£16.99 for 200 samples per month with a VIP plan giving unlimited sample downloads for $47.99/£39.99. These plans also include cloud storage to backup, store and collaborate on their music project files. Further, each pricing plan includes AI Mastering and will include Distribution and Promotion tools launching later this year, announced in a company blog post this January. Aux’s Founder, Ben Bowler, made the announcement at an event hosted at UK House during this year’s SXSW conference, where he was a guest of Innovate UK through their Global Business Innovation Program (GBIP). At the event he commented:
“Today, I’m super excited to launch the first of our AI powered tools, focussed on unlocking musicians’ creative potential. Samples and loops are used in almost every track these days, from dance floor bangers, to the top 40, but even with the biggest sample libraries out there, supply is limited, and popular packs and samples are downloaded tens of thousands of times, making music sound unoriginal. We’re breaking that trend! LoopLM and Aux Sounds generates high quality samples that are unique every time.” He continued: “As a musician and a technologist, I started Aux to bring together every possible tech tool that could help musicians be more creative, collaborate on their tracks and make money from their music. We started in music collaboration in 2021, with the Aux Hub app, and launched Direct to help musicians make more money from their music in 2023. In 2024 we have an ambitious plan to super-charge the platform, adding Sounds, Mastering, Distribution and Promotion tools all in 12 months, and as of today we’re on track to achieve this and more.”
The Aux team are already training the next version of LoopLM, 1.0, which will generate Stereo samples and reproduce a wider range of genres and styles with a larger training dataset, to be released in May this year. The company plans to release a new version of the model every 2/4 months as they sign new licencing deals and improve the model structure. In future versions, the company plans to allow users to hum or tap an idea to generate samples (known as audio conditioning). They are also planning to expand the interface of Aux Sounds to allow multiple samples to be generated and beat-matched to allow musicians to build the foundation of their songs in the Aux Hub app direct. Aux launched the Aux Hub music collaboration app in 2021 as its first product. This Mac, PC and web app allows musicians to back-up their music projects from popular music production software such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro and 16 others, share these projects with collaborators and work in real-time remotely with other producers, instrumentalists, and singers. In 2022 the company acquired a UK based direct-to-fan merchandise website to allow their existing users to make money from their music and engage fans through merchandise and memberships. This acquisition led to the launch of Direct.app, in 2023, as an integrated sister brand to Aux.
The complete platform now has over 70K users and has paid out tens of thousands of dollars to creators.
