Two music industry legends, acclaimed former Creation label boss and artist manager Alan McGee and Grammy award-winning music producer and Killing Joke bassist Martin ‘Youth’ Glover have today announced the founding of a brand new label Creation Youth, in collaboration with respected music industry figures Richard England and Nick Lawrence.
Creation Youth has been established to encapsulate the A&R skills of former Creation Records label boss Alan McGee (Oasis, Primal Scream, Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) and artistic and production mastery of Youth (Paul McCartney ,The Verve, Pink Floyd, Toots Hibbert), with the support of expertise from A&R and label manager Richard England, founder of Cadiz Music and A&R and Business/Finance management boss Nick Lawrence, founder of BigStar Business Management.
The label will utilise the collective skills, experience and network of the four founders, to build an eclectic roster of both legendary and emerging recording artists.
Alan McGee said “Looking forward to this! I have been friends with Youth since 1980, he is my friend and also one of my heroes. The first record we have made together for the label is the Forgotten Pharaohs album, which is already record of the year for me.”
Youth said “We are excited and psyched to execute this ambitious and visionary artistic venture. Working with Alan for decades has always been a great experience. He is unmatched, with a passion and genius for music and bands, management, labels and publishing. He always brings an inspirational connection with artists when he enters the room. It was inevitable we would start a label together, our shared age, taste and passion for music always shines through when we get together. Combined with my experience in production and labels, Nick Lawrence’s razor-sharp business acumen and Richard England’s cutting-edge backline label experience make us a formidable team. We will put out great music from late legends, plus new and established artists, all committed to making beautiful noise.”
Richard England said “It is a remarkable honour and privilege, after running Cadiz Music for over 20 years, to now be part of Creation Youth. Especially to work with Alan, Youth and Nick, all trailblazing music legends and geniuses!”
Nick Lawrence added “Honoured to be working with these amazing individuals in the development of an imprint with musical integrity and diversity at its very core.”
Music releases will be presented in both physical and digital formats for album projects, and a subscription-based singles club curated by Alan McGee. Initial projects and releases from Creation Youth include the below, plus future projects in the pipeline with Zoe Devlin, Merry McLeod , Brix Smith and KT Raban:
Jamie Reid – the late punk artist/anarchist and druid, and designer of iconic logos for Sex Pistols as well as the Creation Youth label logo, wrote the lyrics of ‘Ancestors’ a song with the late Simon Emmerson (Afro Celt Soundsystem). Youth, Jamie and Simon re-recorded a new version and shot a video before Simon and Jamie passed. Richard Norris (The Grid) has remixed two tracks, and two mixes from Youth appear on a new 12” EP ‘Ancestors’, which will be the first release from the label out 26th April.
Forgotten Pharaohs - an exciting new band recently signed by Alan McGee. From the Welsh wilds of Powys, acoustic singer-songwriter Christian Pattemore has joined forces with Cast guitarist Skin Tyson to release a record with all the hallmarks of seventies Laurel Canyon, layering blues, folk, heartland rock and psychedelia. produced by Youth.
Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry - the legendary, late Jamaican producer and visionary started an album with Youth, before suddenly and unexpectedly passing away in Jamaica in 2021. Youth had a few vocals and added more from recordings of Lee from the ‘Visions Of Paradise’ movie. He has lovingly created this posthumous collaborative , tribute album, which will see the release of new track ‘Butterfly’ featuring Hollie Cook, and an album ‘Spaceship to Mars’ featuring Boy George, Zoe Devlin, Blue Pearl and many more.
Bad Fractals –new band, who describe themselves as Acid, Glam, Punk & Melodic Trash Rock, will release a single ‘Carousel’ produced by Youth. The band have already carved a fierce reputation on the festival circuit and at east London happenings. It’s a dark carnival of joy, hedonism and emotional release.
Sonny E – the Cyberbilly alias of 90s producer Adamski will release two EPs later this year. Incendiary live appearances at festivals and supporting Killing Joke last year, as well as riotous squat raves in Dalston, has already created a must see buzz for this pioneering legendary artist.
