Lighting Fires
We say
Let's share something rather special here and give you an early heads-up on Olivia Sebastianelli, a singer-songwriter of Italian descent who’s currently based in Brighton but is a Croydon lass at heart. With a publishing deal already in the bag, she’s created this attention-grabbing corker with her writing partner Pete Hammerton. When you first hear the song (which has all the hallmarks of being a potential worldwide hit at some point in the near future) you realise that the set up the two of them have is not unlike that of Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard, harking back to the global phenomena that was Jagged Little Pill. The pair of them throw everything into this track without it ever showing unnecessary excess. It’s big, bold, loaded with memorable hooks and with a vocal performance that’s hugely impressive, even more so for what will be a debut single. Premiered last week on The 405, we adore the ambition that’s clear for everyone to hear on this track. Let’s hope Olivia’s deserved future stardom encourages other UK acts to take the fearless world view instead of a cautious parochial one.
