Animals
We say
We first wrote about Norma Jean Martine in the Compass section of our weekly magazine back in 2013. At the time, this Anglo-American singer was unsigned but had impressed us during several London gigs. Now, things are about to take off with the release of her debut major label EP and this engaging title track. Produced by Danton Supple (who’s worked with Coldplay, U2 and Morrissey amongst others), it starts off deceptively mellow, before she lets loose and choppy guitars edge you into a full-blown stomper. Now based in London, her writing collaborations have included the legendary Burt Bacharach along with Romeo Stodart of The Magic Numbers, Joel Pott from Athlete and Ed Harcourt. After recent shows at The Social and as part of the Community festival, she now plays a sold-out gig tonight (November 16) at The Islington. Then she has a newly-announced date at The Lexington in north London on February 16, coming soon after the release of fan-favourite No Gold early in the new year. Smart, proficient alt-pop from a skilled and talented artist to watch.
