Walls Cave In
We say
Berenice Scott has been surrounded by music since the day she was born. Her father is Robin Scott who, under the alias of M, was responsible for the iconic 1979 hit Pop Muzik, which pretty much defined the synth generation and sound that came soon after it. Following in his creative footsteps, Berenice learnt to play piano by ear, much to the frustration of music teachers who weren’t keen on her elaborate improvisations. As keys player with the band Raygun, she performed support to the likes of Pink, Paul Weller and The Script but is now carving out her own defined solo niche. This beautiful piano-driven song from her reminds us hugely of early Sarah McLachlan and Vanessa Carlton in both its feel and smooth welcoming sound. It’s taken from her latest album Polarity and she has her own YouTube channel series The Breakfast Club Sessions which show her songs stripped back raw and acoustically, helping us appreciate the quality and maturity of her work. Beguiling and entrancing, she’s an artist with an innate ability to craft simply beautiful music.
