The name TIAAN may be new to you, but her background is very impressive indeed. Her father is Doug Williams, a respected jazz musician who was once a session bass player for the great Ray Charles. Tiaan herself was born in Australia and started singing and performing as a kid. She toured the world in her dad's band, before settling in California, where she recently started co-writing tracks with Gary Clark (formerly lead singer with the great Scottish band Danny Wilson) and Stockholm-based super-producers Arnthor Birgisson and Lukipop. It was during those sessions that this stunning minimalist hybrid (think Timbaland-era Aaliyah, Sade at her most soulful and Beyonce at her most filthy) was born. She launched her debut EP to much fanfare last night with a four-song set in front of a rabid and enthusiastic pack of industry tastemakers in Los Angeles. Released on Swedish Aristotracks label, this is sultry and hypnotic electro R&B at its finest, as she details an obsessive love in a dream-like state. Sexy, dark and utterly addictive. We're totally hooked.
