Leon Of Athens is, as the name suggests, literally a guy called Leon Veremis from the Greek capital city and this song is the title track from his debut UK album, due for release in June. He says the whole album was inspired by psychedelic experiences, as well as acts like MGMT, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver and Florence & The Machine and the top-notch production comes from Tony Doogan, who's worked with the likes of Belle & Sebastian and Mogwai. He's given this superb track an excellent slick and polished radio-friendly sound that's bright, optimistic and certain to stick in your head, demanding many return plays in the coming weeks. The launch of the single takes place at London's Notting Hill Arts Club on April 9 and Leon has been invited to play the forthcoming Mark Beaumont Presents evening on May 1 at The Monarch. Back home, he's already established himself with his domestic release Futrue, leading to him playing in front of crowds in excess of 10,000 people. There's obviously something in his euphoric sound, combined with the lyrical social awareness, that connects with people and we reckon that support he's established in Greece can absolutely work globally. This is a big big tune.
