The Spark
We say
Powerfully articulating the case for permanently appending the word 'Dutch' to the phrase 'DJ and super producer' is the Netherlands' Nick van de Wall, aka Afrojack, who teams up here with Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Spree Wilson for the second single from his forthcoming debut album, due early next year. Though nominally a dance record, The Spark is sonically closer to the no-brainer pop of Black Eyed Peas, demonstrating Afrojack's position astride the dance and pop worlds; this month's DJ magazine cover star is just as comfortable collaborating with Beyonce and Pitbull as he is with David Guetta (he produced and co-wrote Titanium). Following a Pete Tong premiere The Spark was Radio 1's Track of the Day on Monday and has already been added to Kiss five weeks out, while the video has amassed nearly 1.5m views in a week. Hard to see this not working.
