Queen Of Hearts

Artist: Darlia
Label: unsigned/Ignition 45s
Impact date: October 28
ROTD featured date: Thursday 3 October 2013

We say

Smelting Gish-era Smashing Pumpkins with the gnarly lyricism of Time For Heroes and the indie-disco danceability of Take Me Out, all in its first thirty seconds, Darlia's debut single Queen of Hearts is nothing if not a statement of intent. And what a start the Blackpool newcomers have had, exploding out of the traps and onto daytime radio seemingly out of nowhere. Thirteen Radio 1 plays in its first three weeks, including Zane Lowe (Next Hype), Huw Stephens, Phil & Alice and the Review Show, culminated in a first daytime airing from Fearne Cotton last week, following early support from Xfm and an online premiere from NME.com. Any of the Knock Knock EP's three Cam Blackwood-produced tracks could have made the cut here, the snarl of Choke or the spitting scorn of Napalm both equally deserving of the clamour to declare Darlia the UK's most exciting new guitar band. Impossible to ignore.
