Nirvana
We say
Not yet a household name but almost certainly a household voice, Sam Smith could hardly be launching his solo career from a more solid foundation. Having lent his unique tones to Disclosure's Latch late last year, his next appearance was on one of the biggest-selling singles of 2013 to date, Naughty Boy's La La La. So with big-name collaborations, festival appearances including Glastonbury, T in the Park and Bestival, not to mention wall-to-wall radio airplay under his belt, he now steps into the limelight in his own right with the aptly titled Nirvana. A Zane Lowe Hottest Record, and with a Radio 1 Live Lounge already broadcast, Nirvana invites hyperbole; if it's any indication of the quality of his debut longplayer, expected next year, Smith has every chance of emulating the successes of his former collaborators. Following a sell-out show at the Mercury Lounge in New York, Smith has a run of sold-out shows in the UK this week. Superstar quality.
