In/Out
We say
That the genre-bending Liverpudlian crooner and LIPA alumnus Dan Croll has been variously and accurately described as afrobeat, 'indie J-pop synth 'n' b' or 'folk-cum-electro-pop' should give some indication of just how genre-bending he really is. Radio 1's Huw Stephens sensibly dispensed with pigeonholes premiering catchy new single In/Out last week, simply hailing Croll 'a melodic musical genius', and Xfm and Radio 2 seem to agree. Whatever his sound, its transatlantic appeal has pricked the ears of newly-revived Universal imprint DERAM Records, the British label that released iconic singles Nights In White Satin and Whiter Shade of Pale, and where Croll now joins a roster numbering David Bowie and Cat Stevens among its early signings. Having supported Chvrches, Little Green Cars, Michael Kiwanuka and countless others at home and in the US, Croll now hits the festival circuit hard this summer, including Secret Garden Party and Reading/Leeds, where he is sure to pick up more fans for his weird but wonderful hits.
