We say

Influenced by Joy Division, Fontaines DC and Interpol, Deadset are a post punk outfit from Hull. Initially formed as a duo by guitarist James Massey and vocalist Sam Mellors, the band evolved from their indie sensibilities into a darker, more intense direction when bassist Adam Arnold and drummer Rio Campbell joined the ranks. Having drawn praise from Wonderland, Destroy/Exist, V13 and more for their first two singles, ‘Heavy Eyes’ is the group’s latest release. Mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Daft Punk), the track is a raw, vulnerable evaluation of a battle against mental health and addiction and how that bleeds into relationships. Fluctuating between morbid sadness and palpitating anger, matched by jarring tempos and guitar work, this is a slick and sublime release. Not for the faint-hearted, this is a heavy anthem and would be perfect for post punk/alternative playlists and spins on Daniel P Carter and Jack Saunders Radio 1 shows, as well as John Kennedy at Radio X and Kerrang! Radio. One to watch.
