!K7 expands Management Division
16 May 2016 - Press release!K7 is expanding !it’s Management division with additional staff and a host of new clients , a move that reflects the company’s growing status as a leading one-stop and full-service music company. To further reflect his, the company has undergone a name change, rebranding from !K7 Records to !K7 Music.
!K7 is in a position to be able to offer the complete management package to empower it’s artist clients by utilizing and taking advantage of the global music services infrastructure that it has developed over it’s 31 year existence . As well as helping artist’s forward their careers, a range of other services are available to them such as financial investment, publishing, merchandising, accounting and licensing, as well as global marketing and social media strategy and expertise.
“As the company has grown and matured we realised that we could offer artists a full palate of services by leveraging the existing infrastructure of !K7”, said Horst Weidenmuller, CEO of !K7 Music which currently employs 30 people and has offices in Berlin, London and New York. “We now have four dedicated staff entirely focused on the management roster and it’s a constantly growing area of !K7’s business” he added.
All !K7 Management artists are encouraged to retain their master and publishing rights through a creative draw-down fund which enables them to produce their assets (records, videos, books) without signing their rights away. They also benefit from monthly label service accounting and support across every aspect of their career. Tricky, who was one of the first acts to sign-up with the company, is to appear in a forthcoming Hollywood blockbuster alongside Scarlett Johannson: “!K7 is the best management I’ve had in the last 22 years. I wish I’d met Horst and his team earlier,” he said.
Alongside placing Tricky in American movie productions, !K7 Management has recently brokered a deal with Deutsche Oper Berlin for neo-classical trio Brandt Bauer Frick. The agreement will see the act produce the music for an opera about the fashion designer Gianni Versace. “The band hold all the rights to the opera outside Germany, and we are currently working on their behalf to bring it to the stage in other countries” Weidenmüller added. “We also recently signed them to Because Music, with their new album set for release in September”.
Will Saul, founder of AUS Music and head of A&R at !K7, recently joined the management division and has added his own roster of artists within the electronic music sphere. His recent signings include DJ Tennis (DJ/producer, owner of Life & Death Records ), Bwana (signed to Lucky Me/Warp), Marquis Hawkes (DJ/producer signed to Houndstooth Recordfs) and exciting South African electronic producer Portable. His 15+ years of industry experience adds a rich A&R focussed dimension to the management division and this has seen the roster grow accordingly.
The current !K7 Management roster includes Tricky, Mykki Blanco, DJ Tennis, Brandt Brauer Frick, Marquis Hawkes, Portable and Luca D’Alberto.
